So I recently noticed that an older post I did where I included tattoo flash has been getting a lot of hits continuously since I originally posted it back in April. After mulling over how to put all this new traffic to good use, I decided to launch a new feature every Friday: FLASH FRIDAYS!
Basically, I’ll create a new tattoo flash design every week and post it here on Friday. I’ll also include a nice big black and white image that you can download (right click – view image-right click-save image as) and are welcome to use if you want a tattoo or you are a tattoo artist looking for more flash to offer your customers. I only have a few humble requests :
- If you use one of my tattoo images for a tattoo, please send me a pic of the work on your body so I can post it here. Email it to me.
- If you like the work and intend to use it, you’re free to download it! I’m not charging anything for the work but do please consider making a small donation in return. Whatever you think is fair. It can be five buck, fifty bucks or five hundred!
- You don’t have to (and I just wouldn’t recommend it) tattooing my artist’s signature on your person. It’s just going to be on these posts because an artist needs to sign their work, am I right?
Ok! That’s it! Hopefully you will all enjoy this new feature here at Magic Inkwell. Who knows, maybe I’ll be getting an email with a pic of someone with a tattoo I designed sooner than I think!
This week’s image is a take on the classic Lady Luck motif. I’m a huge fan of old school tattooing and this one was a real treat for me to work on (even though it did take me all of Thursday’s daylight hours to complete!)

I’m a big fan of the flaming heart and I’ll probably be posting more of these in the near future. Particularly observant viewers may remember this from my early Secrets and Lies promo art. It makes a great tattoo if you want to commemorate a name (not your girlfriends/boyfriends!) or a word that makes you feel a certain way. Mom, perhaps? Forever? Steadfast? That’s for you and your tattooist to work out! Don’t forget to download the line art if you want to use it yourself.
Disclaimers :
- If you use one of my tattoo images for a tattoo, please send me a pic of the work on your body so I can post it here. Email it to me.
- If you like the work and intend to use it, you’re free to download it! I’m not charging anything for the work but do please consider making a small donation in return.
In popular mythology, the bluebird is the universally acknowledged symbol of happiness, prosperity, good health, and the arrival of spring. The beautiful blue of its plumage is associated with the sky and eternal happiness. Traditionally, the bluebird is tattooed on one side of a sailor’s chest when he’s clocked 10,000 nautical miles. A bluebird is tattooed on the other side when the sailor has clocked 20,000 nautical miles, the pair then signifying a well traveled sailor. A tattoo of a dead bluebird is usually associated with loss of innocence and disillusionment.
My bluebird is carrying a banner that says “forever”, bringing a charm of good fortune for the wearer that they may gain eternal happiness and contentment. To dream the impossible dream. As always, don’t forget to download the line art if you want to use this tattoo yourself.

You may or may not have noticed that I’ve been out of commission for a while. There’s several reasons for this, the first and foremost being that I’ve been without internet access for a couple months now. I’m able to catch up on email, etc. using my phone but posting comics (or anything) to my website has been impossible. Hopefully I’ll get this rectified soon, but it may be a few more weeks before this happens. In the meantime I’ve decided to try and relaunch the FLASH FRIDAYS feature here at the inkwell posting free new tattoo flash art every Friday. We’ll see how this goes…
