I’m using some images by SR Bissette that I colored last year to test a new (at least to me) image gallery browsing implementation that i may/may not use in future posts/pages. anyway, let me know if it’s working on your interwubs browzorz…

Works completely differently here, with a little applet that opens, and a “close” button at the bottom. Still in Opera, so it’s an LJ issue, I think.
DON’T DO IT, CAT! Have you noticed the interminable animation when you open an image? THE DEVIL! Lightbox seriously gets up my nose.
I will admit that the “gallery” feature works fine once an image is open and you browse around, but if someone goes clicking on single images, they’llhave to wait for that damn animation EVERY SINGLE TIME.
Also, the image I clicked here (3rd one) opened up with the “close” button below the fold.
If the gallery browsing function is the most critical part for you, then I don’t (yet) have any recommendations, but if you mainly want a thumbnailing system, I like Popbox a lot (see it in action at Trees & Hills Distro and http://www.ecologichomes.com, and there are a couple others I can link to if you’re curious.
Blackbyrd2: yeah, for some reason feeds for posts from magicinkwell.com to LJ don’t tend to include any of the special widgets that might be included in that post (mp3 players, anything flash based mostly). That’s why I posted that little note over at the feed’s comments.
Colin: I’m not testing it for me so much as for one of my web design clients who specifically asked for this kind of js for their own gallery page on their website. I just installed it here to figure out how to make it work, etc. especially in regards to plugging it into a comicpress/wordpress run site.
Ok, while I admit the opening animation is a bit annoying, what sane person is going to close the image each time to look at the next photo? Especially when you can just click the image for the next in the series? Anyway, I actually like Lightbox and think it works pretty well.
