Saw a comics adaptation of this one in a book sometime in my childhood and was fortunate enough to catch it on television at some point. It still resonates deeply with me. I know Disney is evil, but I love these early color Mickey cartoons. Happy Sunday, everone!
I love this too.
I don’t think Disney is evil. I think Walt himself had some ‘issues’ with certain things and I know the company has become too big for its own boots, but surely that doesn’t put Disney in the ‘evil’ category, does it?
I have this thing about the magic of Disney – that feeling I had when I was a kid, before I knew about Disney’s dark side and when I just loved the characters and the way they were drawn – that I like to keep going. I know it sounds like denial, but I prefer to think of it as optimism. It keeps me happy.
Keep up the great work, man.
All the best – John Jenkins
The round, appealing shape of mid-30s Mickey and the breasts in the advertisement below mix together to create a strange, confusing medley of emotions inside me, reminding me of the good and bad of childhood, the pleasure and pain of being real. Thanks, Cat!
I’ve been reading about Walt Disney lately and I’ve been drawing a series of one-page gags about his life. I’ve idealized him as a Christlike figure. His polo accident drives him to dust!
