I’ve been meaning to blog about this for a couple days now –
Colleen Doran had a guest blog on A DISTANT SOIL from Val Trullinger called 11 Things Designers Should Avoid. It’s a great read and echoes a lot of the things I’d decided for myself as a creative working for/with others over these many years (almost 16 years! Started in ’93 in college, though i guess i wasn’t a “professional” until at least ’97 or so…)
I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve committed some of these 11 sins. I’m not proud of it, but I’ve definitely learned a lot from my experiences/mistakes. It’s good to accept sage advice when it’s available.
I think almost everyone’s done a few of those 11 things at one time or another over the course of their career, either through inexperience, naïvety, or sheer overwhelm. Or, you know, just being a jerk. But most of us grow out of it… or have it beaten out of us.
Glad you found the post useful!
